Lookout Weekend . . .

My Saturday Night Date...mmmm Dessert!

As many of you know this past week was my birthday and as much I would have preferred to let this day pass by like any other my friends wanted to celebrate.  So my normal weekend of church and laundry became more about "what meal is next?"

Thank you to Reiko, Greg, Karen, Diane and my special date Adah for Saturday's dinner at Homeroom in Oakland.  A restaurant that basically only serves variations of mac'n cheese!

I enjoyed the Vermont white cheddar with broccoli, bacon, and baked buttery bread crumbs.  Two thumbs up!

Two additional thumbs up for the Sprinkles Cupcakes that Reiko and Greg brought.  Delish!  (If Adah could speak I am sure she would recommend the Red Velvet cupcake!  Yum!)

Thank you to An and Shamoli for a fun day of brunch at Toast followed by a table flipping round of Wii Bowling!  (An won!)

You are all fantastic friends and I am glad to have you in my life!

Sweet Surrender. . . UPDATE ! ! !

In Sunday's blog post I told you about the new cupcake store Susie Cakes. I ended that post by saying that I may have to go back for more cupcakes on Monday.

All I could think about Monday was getting home so that I could go to Susie Cakes and purchase another cupcake. After a long day at work I finally reached Chestnut Street and was devastated when I walked up to Susie Cakes store front only to discover that they are closed on Mondays.

I got over my devastation pretty quickly when I just walked over to one of the other three cupcake stores in the neighborhood to satisfy my fix.

On Tuesday I was picking up my dinner and once again found myself in front of Susie Cakes.

"I should definitely go in," I thought to myself.

(That didn't take much convincing.)

Susie Cakes also sells whole and single slices of cake. So this time I decided to try a slice of marble cake.

When I got to the register the cashier handed me my slice of cake and said, "Here is a free cupcake too."

FREE CUPCAKE! Shut the front door!

I happily made my way home eagerly anticipating the delicious marble cake.

By the time I finished the slice of cake I had a sugar headache and was sick to my stomach. I vowed never to eat a piece of cake again. It was too rich. It was too sweet.

Why didn't I just stop eating when I had the chance?

Like that would have ever happened.

I took the "FREE" cupcake to work the next day to share with a co-worker who has as big of a sweet tooth as me. She said she would save the cupcake until after lunch.

After lunch we were walking down the street back to the office we saw a van parked on the corner handing out FREE CUPCAKES!

Yes, my new nemesis Susie Cakes had followed me to my place of employment to tempt me with her tasty treats.

Despite having vowed just twelve hours earlier never to eat a piece of cake again, I accepted the FREE CUPCAKE with open hands and drooling mouth.

That leads to tonight, when I stopped by my good friend Susie Cakes to say hello.

I was just window shopping when I heard the words come out of my mouth, "I'd like the peanut butter cupcake please."

Damn you Susie Cakes!

At which point the cashier leaned in and said, "Here are some cookies for you to try too!"

I haven't had this much food guilt since the first time I went to Krispy Kreme and found out you get a free donut just for walking in the store.

By the time I got home my guilt had reached an all time high.

I knew there was only one thing to do.

I needed to talk to my personal trainer. . .

I powered up the WII Fit and winced when I stepped on the balance board and heard the TV say "Ouch!"

Then I made a peace offering in the form of a Susie Cake Cupcake to my WII Fit trainer.

She was having nothing of it.

"Let's do the standing knee pose," was all she could say.

OK OK I get it! No more cupcakes!

My trainer is so mean!

Strike . . .

On Friday afternoon my co-workers and I went bowling at the "historic" Presidio bowling alley.

Seriously, this was the smallest bowling alley I have ever seen.  However, when you put it in the perspective that this was the bowling alley for an old military base, I guess it was perfect for its original purpose.

I haven't been bowling in years and was excited and nervous at the same time.  Nervous because I haven't bowled since developing the beginning signs of carpal tunnel syndrome.  I wasn't sure if the movement would aggravate my wrists.  I was excited because I happen to be an amazing Wii bowler.  I pretty much can bowl a strike or a spare every time on the Wii.

Well guess what?  Skills on the Wii do not translate to skills on the lane in real life.  In fact I was suddenly an expert at throwing consistent gutter balls.  I really wanted to join the kids on the other side of the alley who had the bumpers up.  No such luck.

Despite my poor performance, which I am totally blaming on the antibiotics I have been taking, a good time was had by all.

* For the record, that is not me bowling in the top photo.  It's my director Larry.

It's Just So Round. . .

I will be the first to admit that I have put on a few extra pounds.  And it is not very motivating to step on a scale and see the number climb higher than it has ever climbed before.  But humiliation has reached a whole new level with the Nintendo Wii.

I just purchased the Wii this week.  I thought that it might be a fun way to start getting a little bit of exercise.  (I still have my gym membership...I just choose not to go.)

For those of you who are not aware, one of the first things you have to do is create a "Mii" which is a virtual representation of yourself.  You can customize it however you want.  Short, Tall, Skinny, Fat, Favorite Color, Hair Style, Eye Glasses, you name it, you can choose it.

I thought I was being very accurate when I made my Mii a little stockier than I would prefer.

Today I was able to get my hands on the Wii Fit game.

The Wii Fit is a balance board that you stand on and then proceed to do activities that exercise your core to develop strength and flexibility.  However, before you get to the fun stuff, the Wii has to assess your fitness level.

The Wii asks for your age and height.  Then it asks you to step on the board so that it can calculate your BMI (Body Mass Index.)

The Wii Fit immediately told me I was a big ol fatty and then proceeded to increase the stomach on my Mii (See Above).  After a few preliminary tests it also determined I have no balance.  How Rude!

So far my favorite game on the Wii Fit is the Hula Hoop.  My lack of balance apparently allows me to excel at this game.

And then there is the Soccer game where your job is to hit the soccer balls that are kicked at you with your head.  At the same time you are to avoid anything that is not a soccer ball.  If the non-soccer ball items hit you, the game makes a loud "Smack" noise.  I am not good a the soccer game and I think the reason why is because I kept getting hit by flying shoes.  The "Smack" sound got me giggling and then I lost all concentration on the game.

Here's to hoping my Mii sheds those extra pounds!
