Set It Off . . .

Circle the wagons!

Or in this case the food trucks.

Friday night my friends and I went to Off The Grid at Fort Mason.   Off The Grid is a "mobile food extravaganza" that features the hottest hippest food trucks in the City and live music.

As this was our first time at Off The Grid we thought it was important to walk the entire circle before deciding on which line to stand in.  And when I say line I mean LINE.  Some lines were thirty to forty minute waits with stanchions set up to control the crowd.

As we maneuvered our way through the sea of people I set my sights on Curry Up Now - the Indian Street Food truck while my friend An decided on 3-Sum Eats whose menu was designed by Chef Ryan Scott of Top Chef fame.

Here is An next to the "An The Go" noodle truck

My Chicken Tikka Masala Burrito made with Organic Chicken Breast, Methi Pulao, Chana Masala and Pickled Onions was killer.  It was a little on the spicy side but I loved every bite.  When my friends Shamoli and Atiya saw my Indian Burrito they opted to get their food from Curry Up Now too.

After my delicious dinner it was time to get back in line.   This time for some cupcakes from CupKates.

I chose a Double Vanilla (Madagascar Vanilla Cake topped with Vanilla Bean Buttercream Frosting) and a Spicy Mexican Chocolate.

These cupcakes have a more solid dense cake than The Marina favorite frosting filled variety offered at
"Susie Cakes".  The cake; with a dollop of rich frosting was easier to eat because it didn't break apart in your hand.

The Spicy Mexican Chocolate was to die for.   I guess I am lucky they had already run out of S'mores and Salted Caramel.

Off The Grid was a lot of fun.  The communal atmosphere of folding chairs scattered inside a circle of food trucks inspired conversations with strangers.

"What is that you are eating?"

"Which truck did you get that from?"

"How long did you have to wait?"

"Is it good?"

"Is anyone sitting here?"

"This is our first time."

"I can't wait to come back!"

  1. YUMMY! i agree the denser cake might be easier to eat, specially while in a crowd. were you able to balance a drink to wash all this yummy food down?
    thanks for the food story.
