Traveling Down This Road . . .

Sky Fits Heaven

Sky fits heaven to fly it
That's what the prophet said to me
Child fits mother so hold your baby tight
That's what my future could see
Traveling down this road
Watching the signs as I go
I think I'll follow the sun
Isn't everyone just
Traveling down their own road
Watching the signs as they go
Fate fits karma so use it
That's what the wise man said to me
Love fits virtue so hold on to the light
That's what our future will be
Traveling down this road
Watching the signs as I go
I think I'll follow the sun
Isn't everyone just
Traveling down their own road
Watching the signs as they go
I think I'll follow my heart
It's a very good place to start
Traveling down my own road
Watching the signs as they go
Traveling
Traveling
Watching the signs as they go
Hand fits giving so do it
That's what the gospel said to me
Life fits living so let your judgements go
That's how our future should be

I left work and started to walk home.

A quarter of the way home I decided I no longer wanted to walk home and hopped on the first bus that pulled up.

I thought I knew where the bus was going.

The bus however turned the corner and went in the opposite direction.

In a deja vu moment I realized I had made this same mistake about three years ago.

I got off the bus and walked the rest of the way home.

My brain works in song lyrics. Memories are connected to whatever song was playing at the time of the event. So usually when I am thinking about something, it is coming to me in the form of a song. That is why each blog entry has a song link at that end.

So as I walked through the Broadway Tunnel my brain was singing ..."I'm traveling down this road watching the signs as I go I think I'll follow the sun..."

In this case, the sun was the yellow tiled tunnel with the light at the end.

You Can Run You Can Hide But You Can't Escape . . .

Saturday night was one of those rare evenings in San Francisco that it was warm enough to go to bed with the windows open. I fell asleep to the sounds of the buses and cars working their way up and down the city streets.

I was awakened at 8am Sunday morning by the blast of a horn from a boat on The Bay.

The horn blast was the signal for the start of the "Escape From Alcatraz" triathlon. I sat up in bed and looked out the window to watch the hundreds of athletes swim the 1.5 miles from Alcatraz to the shore in the frigid Bay water.

The athletes then began an 18 mile bike ride followed by an 8 mile run. While they were "Escaping from Alcatraz" my friends and I had already purchased tickets to go to the island and take the cell house tour.

I had been on the cell house tour about 19 years ago when I was still in high school. I remember it being very thrilling, so much so that I actually bought the cassette tape of the tour so that I could listen to it over and over again. (Showing my age; I don't even think a cassette tape is an option for a souvenir today.)

The tour has not changed at all in 19 years except for some minor updates to the audio track. I found it just as thrilling today as I did so many years back.

The above picture shows one of the fake heads and a hollowed out vent from the 1962 prison escape by Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin. Although their bodies were never found they are presumed to have drowned while trying to cross The Bay to San Francisco.

It was a beautiful day to take a ride out on the ferry and enjoy the sunshine, some history, and observe the ecological preserve that Alcatraz has become today.

Cherry . . .

Saturday April 17th I checked out the Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown.

This street fair had stage presentations, cover bands, food and products for sale by artisans.

The below picture is of the SF Sword Society demonstrating their ability to cut bamboo with a quick swing of the blade.

Here is a clip of one of the cover bands performing songs by the Jackson 5.

Whatever You Like . . .

I was so fortunate to be able to spend a couple hours with my niece Megan and Sister in Law Amy on Friday afternoon.

Megan and Amy were on a whirlwind four day class field trip to the Bay Area.

I met Megan and Amy on their "dinner break" Friday at the Stanford Mall.

We even got some power shopping done at The G. A. P!

I Feel So Moved . . .

I was not sure why I took my camera with me to church this morning.

After mass, instead of going home, I started walking in the other direction. As I strolled up the hills of Pacific Heights I began snapping pictures of the beautifully manicured flower beds in front of magnificent homes.

I kept walking through the gates of the Presidio where I happened upon Lucas Film.

On I went until I eventually ended up on the other side of Golden Gate Bridge. The slide show above captures my journey.

You will notice the last frame in the slide show is the bus arriving. I was very happy I didn't have to walk all the way home!

And now, several hours later I am wishing I had put sun screen on before leaving the apartment this morning.

Wicked . . .

My new favorite person in San Francisco has got to be the manager of the Wax Museum at Fisherman's Wharf. He or She must have the most wicked sense of humor.

Back in January I shared that the Wax Museum had placed Michael Jackson and Tiger Woods on the lazy susan entrance display.

In what can only be described as an inspired genius move; the museum has updated the display with the following rotation:

Michael Jackson - The late King Of Pop who spent the last decade entangled in allegations of child molestation.

Ricky Martin - The Latin singing sensation who recently came out of the closet. They even added the very tacky touch of draping the gay rainbow flag across his shoulders. So wrong!

But the piece de resistance is the third figure in the rotation...

Yes, that's right Pope Benedict; who is facing his own scandal right now for allegedly not properly handling sex abuse allegations in the church.

Bravo Wax Museum for creating the Holy Trinity of scandal!
